What is Noah’s Ark?
Noah’s Ark is a nonprofit organization that provides care and treatment for more than 1,000 animals, including exotic, wildlife and domestic animals. Noah’s Ark provides habitats that have the animals’ best interests in mind and that mimic their natural environments. Noah’s Ark promotes humane, responsible and informed animal treatment and ownership.

Noah’s Ark is located at 712 LG Griffin Road on 250 rolling acres just south of Atlanta in Locust Grove, Georgia.

How long has Noah’s Ark been in operation?
Jama Hedgecoth, Noah’s Ark’s founder, has taken in abused and orphaned animals her entire life. In 1978, she and her family moved to a farm in North Henry County, GA, and started Noah’s Ark. When the animal population grew too large for their home and land, the family and all the resident animals moved to our current location in Locust Grove, GA.
Who are the regulating offices and what kind of licenses are you required to have in order to do what you do?
Noah’s Ark is one of the preferred destinations for confiscated and rescued animals through our partnerships with the Department of Natural Resources (DNR), United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), United States Department of the Interior (USDI), Georgia Department of Agriculture and U.S. Fish and Wildlife.
Where do Noah’s Ark’s animals come from?
The animals come from the Department of Natural Resources, zoos, educational institutions and from the general public.

How many animals live permanently at Noah’s Ark?
We have more than 1,000 exotic, wildlife and domestic animals who have found their home at Noah’s Ark. Among them, we have more than 100 different species of animals!
What are the “must see” animals at Noah’s Ark?
The most popular animals at Noah's Ark are Baloo the American black bear, and Shere Khan the tiger. Leo the lion passed away August 2016. They have lived together as a family at Noah’s Ark since 2001.
Does Noah’s Ark have an Endowment?
Not at the present time, although we would love to have one. We are a non-profit organization that relies 100 percent on the generosity of our friends and supporters.
How does Noah’s Ark receive funding for its animals?
Noah’s Ark is a non-profit organization that relies 100 percent on the generous financial and volunteer support of the community.
How much does it cost to feed all the animals?
It costs $33,000 per month to feed, treat and care for the animals, which is funded entirely by donations. Supporters are asked to donate through annual, major or planned gifts.
Does Noah’s Ark take dogs and cats?
Currently Noah’s Ark does not actively take cats or dogs for placement due to lack of space and funding. However, Noah’s Ark currently provides a wide network for the placement of animals through referrals. The Noah’s Ark Animal Rehabilitation and Education Center is designated a “No Kill” Center. Funding in the amount of $250,000 annually would be required to operate a full service animal adoption program.
What is a “No Kill” Shelter?
A “No Kill” center saves both healthy and treatable pets, with euthanasia used only for unhealthy and un-treatable animals
Does Noah’s Ark ever turn down animals?
Yes, but only due to the lack of funding for habitats and care. When we cannot accept an animal, Noah's Ark works with a network placement system. We've placed hundreds of animals through referrals.
How many visitors does Noah’s Ark have per year?
More than 100,000 people visit Noah’s Ark and participate in educational programs each year.
How many volunteers help at Noah’s Ark?
Every year 150 or more volunteers come for group work projects and to help with events. We also have many who volunteer weekly.
